The following is the contents of the "My musical poetry" page at my
socialist website, which includes 20 songs/musical poems. Go to
http://www.socialiststeve.me.uk/poetry.htm for the contents of this
page with links that you can click on to download them in WMA or MP3
format. I have included the full contents of this page below, as some
of you may be interested in my love life, about which I have written a
fair amount (as well as some purely political songs)!
I have written quite a large number of political songs/msuical poems
(some of which are also about love). I was intending to wait until my
band Galaxia (which will perhaps adopt the name Red Day) is
established before producing recordings of them. However, this would
take some time and the Scottish parliamentary elections (on Thursday
the 3rd of May 2007) are approaching. I have therefore recorded some
of them as poems on my own, with some lines sung rather than spoken.
I have so far made the following recordings, in Windows Media Audio
(WMA) and MP3 formats:
I wish Cath was a folk rocker (with flowers in her hair) - WMA, MP3,
lyrics
The Revolution Could Have Started Then! - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Walking Where The Roses Grow - WMA, MP3, lyrics
9/11 Inside Job - WMA, MP3, lyrics
George Bush's Army - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Livin' La Vida Loca - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Couldn't Wait Until Sunday - WMA, MP3, lyrics
I Don't Look Back In Anger - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Poll Tax Victory - WMA, MP3, lyrics
The Surveillance State - WMA, MP3, lyrics
The Fugitive - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Prisoners Political - WMA, MP3, lyrics
An ode to Scott - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Assassinations - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Does it matter if God exists? - WMA, MP3, lyrics
The Socialist Throng - WMA, MP3, lyrics
I Walk The Earth - WMA, MP3, lyrics
What Can I Do? - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Too Good To Be Forgotten - WMA, MP3, lyrics
Talking About A Revolution - WMA, MP3, lyrics
I have divided my musical creations into songs in which every line has
a tune (which may be performed by the band as well as myself
unaccompanied) and musical poems with lines that do not (which will
only be performed by me). The songs are on the Galaxia/Red Day website
(with brief explanations of those songs on and their lyrics accessible
from the lyrics page of that website) and the poems are listed below.
When I have produced recordings of any poems or songs, MP3/WMA files
containing the recordings for downloading free of charge from anywhere
in the world (copyleft to encourage distribution for non-commercial
purposes) will be placed here. Some of the songs/poems may be recorded
on CDs using the Red Squirrel Collective record label, set up by
Scottish Socialist Youth (the youth wing of the Scottish Socialist
Party). That record label has produced demo CDs at £1 each, so I would
like CDs with my recordings on to also be available cheaply. I will
not make any profit out of them; any proceeds will be reinvested in
the record label or distributed to good causes by the Foundation for
PR-based Socialism.
The following is a list of musical poems I have written so far:
The Surveillance State - A poem (which is alternatively a song on the
Galaxia website) dedicated to Cath Bann (founder of Defy-ID, an
organiation "against ID cards and the surveillance state" which gave
me inspiration for the poem and its title). This song is about spying,
ID cards, mind reading and mind control, pointing out the role of
infiltration in both preventing political change and ensuring it
actually happens in the chorus. Click here for the lyrics. I have done
a recording of this musical poem, available as a Windows Media Audio
(WMA) file (downloadable by clicking here) and also available in MP3
format (downloadable by clicking here).
Too Good To Be Forgotten - A poem dedicated to Cath Bann (my strongest
collaborator between 1998 and 2003 who I naturally fell in love with),
about the poll tax, anarchism, sanctions and war on Iraq, ID cards and
(of course) love! Click here for the lyrics. I have done a recording
of this musical poem, available as a Windows Media Audio (WMA) file
(downloadable by clicking here) and also available in MP3 format
(downloadable by clicking here).
Walking Where The Roses Grow - A poem dedicated to Rosie Kane
(Scottish Socialist Party Member of the Scottish Parliament for
Glasgow) about the environment, which mentions direct action against
Trident and calls for strike action or demonstrations at the time of
the next G8 summit. My G8 summit worldwide general strike website
discusses whether strike action is pracitcable at the time of this
summit. This poem also warns about big business infiltrators and there
is a hint of love in it too! Click here for the lyrics. I have done a
recording of this musical poem, available as a Windows Media Audio
(WMA) file (downloadable by clicking here) and also available in MP3
format (downloadable by clicking here).
Assassinations - A poem about the assassination of Nathalie Monier, a
woman I was deeply in love with, about a week before Princess Diana
also died in very suspicious circumstances. I have set up a discussion
group called assassination-of-nathalie-monier. Visit the assassination-
of-princess-diana group or the Princess Diana bulletin board at the
Revolutionary Platform Network forum for more information about
Diana's assassination. Click here for the lyrics. I have done a
recording of this musical poem, available as a Windows Media Audio
(WMA) file (downloadable by clicking here) and also available in MP3
format (downloadable by clicking here).
Couldn't Wait Until Sunday - A poem I wrote much of while a political
prisoner in a police station cell on the night of the 12th/13th May
2006, initially calling it Can't Wait Until Sunday, about my plans for
my 40th birthday on Sunday the 14th of May. I had invited along the
first serious love of my life, Rhiannon Williams, who I had not seen
for over 20 years. My plans were wrecked by my incarceration. Click
here for the lyrics. I have done a recording of this musical poem,
available as a Windows Media Audio (WMA) file (downloadable by
clicking here) and also available in MP3 format (downloadable by
clicking here).
I Walk The Earth - A poem dedicated to several different women from my
past (Paula Mitchell, Naomi Byron, Sinéad Daly and Susan from Dublin,
a Polish woman whose name I never found out, a Polish lodger of my
former best friend Julian Beard called Dorotca, Morag Allen, Cath Bann
and Sonya Qureshi). It contains information about the miners' strike,
a 55-mile sponsored walk (from UMIST in Manchester back to UMIST
again) called the Bogle Stroll, the anti-poll tax movement, a Youth
Against Racism in Europe camp in eastern Germany, the 1998 European
School of the CWI (at which I became a big factor in world politics by
being the only person from England or Wales to speak in the debate in
favour of setting up the Scottish Socialist Party), the circumstances
that led to me first becoming a political prisoner and my time with a
nurse called Sonya when I was incarcerated. Click here for the lyrics.
I have done a recording of this musical poem, available as a Windows
Media Audio (WMA) file (downloadable by clicking here) and also
available in MP3 format (downloadable by clicking here).
An ode to Scott - A poem about addiction to drugs and alcohol. Click
here for the lyrics. I have done a recording of this musical poem,
available as a Windows Media Audio (WMA) file (downloadable by
clicking here) and also available in MP3 format (downloadable by
clicking here).
Whatever Happened To The Conspiracies? - A poem dedicated to Martine
McCutcheon (who I suggested is the nicest robot the world has ever
seen). The poem mentions how different opinions about whether Martine
had a miscarriage (expressed by me in my document How our brains help
or hinder the struggle for socialism) has destroyed the strongest
conspiracies by the forces of big business; they have regrouped but
are much weaker. Click here for the lyrics.
